Prior to Sanborn, he was vice president and manager of the hazardous and solid waste group at Earth Tech, Inc. Before that, he worked with GEI Consultants, Inc., where he held positions from project manager to vice president and environmental division manager.

Engels earned his master's in civil engineering at Cornell University and a bachelor's in civil engineering at Manhattan College.

There were 126 home sales in the East Flushing in 2008, with median price of $627,500.
